Cyndi está de regreso. Vuelve tras siete años sin editar un álbum con material nuevo. Hace cinco meses fue el lanzamiento de su disco "Bring ya to the Brink". Con este disco, vuelve a las pistas de baile. La última vez que un disco de Cyndi había ingresado a los charts de música bailable había sido el 2004 con los remixes de su cover de la canción "Walk on By" incluida en su álbum "At Last" de 2003. Con "Bring ya to the Brink", un disco exclusivamente bailable regresa por tercera vez a Chile. La primera vez fue en noviembre de 1989 cuando promocionaba su tercer álbum "A Night To Remember", el último de su trilogía de discos millonarios. A Estadio Nacional lleno, unos 65.000 fanáticos corearon la docena de grandes éxitos que cosechaba a esa fecha. Dos días después, unos 8.000 fanáticos de Concepción hicieron lo propio. Luego de ello su carrera decayó, no solo en ventas sino también en productividad. Su siguiente álbum "Hat Full Of Stars" apareció en el mercado cuatro años más tarde.
Su segunda presentación en Chile fue en noviembre de 1994, cuando la carrera de la Lauper iba en descenso. Eso se notó. Sólo unos 3.000 asistentes en el Teatro Caupolicán (llamado Monumental en ese entonces) presenciaron un show íntimo donde la única novedad respecto de su anterior show fue el remozado "Hey Now (Girls Just Wanna Have Fun)" en estilo reggae.
Desde entonces, la mayor parte de los radioescuchas en Chile apenas supieron de los nuevos discos de la cantante. "Sisters Of Avalon" de 1996 sólo fue escuchado en discotecas, "Shine" de 2001 no tuvo mayor repercusión. Recién el año 2005 volvimos a escuchar a Cyndi en las radios con la versión a dúo con Sarah McLachlan de su éxito "Time After Time".
Cyndi ha incursionado en diversos estilos durante los últimos 15 años. Rock, Folk, Adult contemporary, Dance-pop y Electronic. Justamente estos últimos dos son los estilos de su nuevo álbum (Ver http://cyndilauperenchile.blogspot.com/2008/11/el-lbum-bring-ya-to-brink.html).

Ella sólo quiere divertirse

La cantante norteamericana ofrecerá este mes su tercer concierto en Chile, a 19 años del primero ante un repleto Estadio Nacional. Una ocasión que recuerda tanto como nosotros: "El cariño de la gente fue incluso más grande que mi cabellera", dice.

Las visitas de Madonna y Cyndi Lauper han dado pie a toda clase de comparaciones entre ambas artistas. Que la vigencia, la convocatoria, el éxito, lo que encarnan, la renovación, los estilos, etc. Como sea, algunas cosas con ellas son claras: Ambas surgieron en los 80, llegaron a la cima del éxito y, con mayor o menor suerte, pudieron trascender de esos años para continuar en actividad hasta nuestros días.Es algo que no todas las figuras femeninas de esos años pueden decir. No puede Tiffany, ni la virginal Debbie Gibson, ni la algo más atrevida Martika, entre otras. Será por eso que Lauper, quien estará por tercera vez en Chile el próximo martes 25 de noviembre, se refiere a esas colegas con la mayor cortesía, aunque sin hacerse parte de la comparación. "Siento un total respeto por esas mujeres. Ellas tocaron diferentes áreas y a personas de distintas edades, y algunas, como yo, continúan haciéndolo. Ser mujer en la industria de la música es más difícil cuando estás intentando surgir. Si eres fuerte y estás en control de cada aspecto de tu carrera, entonces te pueden considerar una perra o una absoluta maniática", cuenta en entrevista con Emol.

La intérprete de "Girls just wanna have fun" estará presentando su más reciente disco, Brink ya to the brink, en el Teatro Caupolicán, un recinto que conoció en 1997, durante su segundo concierto en Chile. El primero había sido nueve años antes, ante un repleto Estadio Nacional.

-En Chile recordamos mucho esa presentación, porque fue uno de los primeros grandes conciertos de una estrella pop internacional en nuestro país. ¿Qué recuerdos tienes tú?

-Recuerdo que mi cabellera era realmente grande, y que el cariño que recibí de la gente fue incluso más grande que mi cabellera. Recuerdo esa energía y emoción. Fue definitivamente algo mutuo.

-El concierto de noviembre será el tercero que ofreces en Chile. ¿Qué esperas de esta ocasión?

-La tercera vez es encantadora y estoy lista para rockear y bailar, por supuesto. Quiero a todos de pie conmigo.

-¿Qué tan complicado es mostrar en vivo un nuevo álbum, considerando que la gente quiere escuchar y cantar tus éxitos?

-Siempre he reconocido la música que me ha permitido llegar al lugar en el que estoy. Trato de darles a mis fans los hits, tanto como mostrar mi nueva música. Reorganizaré o cambiaré alguno de los clásicos para mantener el repertorio fresco y en movimiento.

-¿Qué esperas de este nuevo álbum? ¿Es posible esperar en estos tiempos un éxito tan grande como A night to remember (1989), por ejemplo?

-Me siento agradecida de que todavía se me permita hacer mi música y continuar con mi arte. Estoy realmente orgullosa del nuevo disco. Hasta ahora la respuesta ha sido magnífica. Hago música para mí misma, para mis fans y, en este caso, para la pista de baile. Considerando las reacciones que he recibido de dj's en todo el mundo, yo diría que ya he logrado lo que me propuse, que fue hacer un álbum de electrónica contemporánea más animado, que comience en los clubes, pero que luego se haga camino en la cultura pop.

-En los últimos años, hemos visto una gran tendencia a recordar los ochenta. ¿Qué piensas al respecto? ¿Te sientes una representante de esos años?

-Seguro, creo que los 80 son definidos por un grupo de artistas, y yo tuve la suerte de dejar mi marca en la moda, el video, las artes visuales y la música. Me siento bendecida de poder aprovechar lo que logré en los 80. Eso se debe a que tengo unos fans geniales, que han crecido conmigo.

Cyndi Lauper: "Compararme a mí con Madonna es mezclar manzanas y naranjas"

La cantante se presenta el 25 de noviembre en Santiago, en un show que promete tener los clásicos ochenteros.

Cyndi Lauper lo deja claro a la primera pregunta: en su show, dice, lo más importante es la música. "No llevo una gran producción, y aunque canto canciones bailables no voy con un montón de bailarines. Canto cosas nuevas y cosas viejas, es un concierto de rock", afirma al teléfono desde Nueva York, antes de partir en una gira sudamericana que la tendrá en Chile el 25 de noviembre.

Y aunque todavía no sabe que estará en Santiago sólo unas semanas antes de que se presente aquí el gran show de Madonna, el 10 y 11 de diciembre, esa respuesta la aleja inmediatamente de su colega, con quien muchas veces se dijo que tenía una rivalidad musical: "Yo nunca lo sentí así. Siempre creí que compararme a mí con Madonna es mezclar manzanas y naranjas. Yo no soy ella, ella no es yo, y de verdad me parecen muy buenas algunas cosas que escribe".

"Bring ya to the brink" es el título del disco que tiene a la diva de 55 años en un nuevo tour promocional. A diferencia de su álbum anterior, "The body acoustic" (2005), en que reversionó algunos de sus mayores éxitos y grabó algunos covers en clave acústica, aquí presenta canciones muy bailables y con beats electrónicos. "Simplemente quería escribir y hacer música con energía", dice.

Pero las canciones no han sido lo único a lo que le ha dedicado su tiempo últimamente. También apoyó públicamente la campaña presidencial de Barack Obama, y confiesa que se emocionó con el triunfo del demócrata: "Me puse a llorar, fue un momento muy feliz. Tiene mucho trabajo por hacer, pero va a descubrir cómo hacerlo bien".

Ésta será la tercera pasada de Lauper por Chile, que estuvo antes en 1989 y 1994. Sobre la primera visita, tiene un nítido recuerdo: "Fui a Santiago y a Concepción, y no sabía quién estaba ahí, porque había mucha gente esperando, pensé que había un diplomático o algo así. No pensé que fuera todo por mí, fue muy dulce".

Cyndi Lauper confirma visita a Chile en noviembre

"Voy a ir en noviembre" dijo la cantante de 55 años a Radio Universo al ser consultada sobre la posibilidad de cantar para sus seguidores chilenos.

Tal como expresó en una entrevista con Radio Universo (93.7) la cantante estadounidense Cyndi Lauper señaló que actuará en Chile en un recital en el que repasará éxitos como "True colors" y material de su álbum "Bring ya to the brink".

"Voy a ir en noviembre" dijo la cantante de 55 años a Radio Universo al ser consultada sobre la posibilidad de cantar para sus seguidores chilenos.

Según indicó, su idea es interpretar "música de su nuevo disco y canciones de toda su carrera". Sobre el sonido dance pero fresco de su nuevo trabajo sentenció que "lo único que es seguro en la vida es que las cosas cambian y eso es muy bueno".

Su casa discográfica aclaró que existen avanzadas negociaciones y que aún resta por firmar el contrato respectivo, pero que se baraja como lugar y fecha probable del recital el 25 de noviembre en el centro de eventos Espacio Riesco. El 25 de noviembre en el teatro Caupolicán: La cantante actuará dos semanas antes que Madonna, su gran rival.

El ring ochentero está servido: 24 años después de la batalla en rankings de Madonna (50) y Cyndi Lauper (55), Chile será un tardío testigo de la rivalidad entre las mayores divas de los 80. A los ya publicitados conciertos de la "chica material", ayer se confirmaron las coordenadas definitivas del retorno de su coetánea a la capital: será el 25 de noviembre, en el teatro Caupolicán.

O sea, apenas 15 días de diferencia para ver a dos íconos del pop norteamericano femenino: ambas neoyorquinas, con debut discográfico en 1983 y ya cargando con la cincuentena. A la hora de subir al escenario, hoy la diferencia es evidente. Mientras Madonna ama la pirotecnia, Lauper ha optado por presentaciones más íntimas y sobrias.

Así se la verá en el recinto de San Diego: su "Bring ya to the brink tour" es una mezcla de su último álbum, del mismo nombre y lanzado en mayo, con clásicos de sus días más coloridos, como "Girls just want to have fun", "Time after time" y "All through the night". Además, la crítica ha recalcado que la estadounidense no ha perdido nada de su encanto y que incluso su voz -quizá su gran arma ganadora a la hora de las comparaciones con Madonna- se mantiene en buena forma.

"Es coqueta, risueña, delgada, cuenta historias, se ríe de su pasado y conversa con el personal de seguridad. A esta edad no se preocupa de lo que puedan llegar a decir de ella", destacó el periódico "The Times" en la reciente visita a Inglaterra de la artista. Jorge Espinoza, jefe de Océano Producciones y encargado de su visita, agrega que la cantante -quien también vino en 1989 y 1994- aún cuenta con un amplio arrastre en Chile, y no cree que influya la cercanía de su visita con la de la reina del pop.

Las entradas para el recital de Lauper salen a la venta este martes 21 y costarán $18.000 (tribuna general), $30.000 (tribuna alta numerada), $40.000 (platea baja numerada), y $60.000 (palco). En Ticketmaster, cine Hoyts, tiendas Falabella y el 690 2000.

Bring Ya To The Brink Tour

El Bring Ya To The Brink Tour es la gira mundial de Cyndi Lauper para promocionar su nuevo álbum titulado de la misma manera. Los conciertos se han realizado en Japón y Europa y considera doce fechas para shows en Latinoamérica entre el 9 de noviembre y el 29 de noviembre, en Puerto Rico, Brasil, Argentina, Chile, Perú y Venezuela.

En algunos shows incluye la canción "Fearless" al final del show de su álbum "Sisters Of Avalon" y reeditado en versión acústica en "The Body Acoustic". La canción "Hole In My Heart (All The Way To Chine)" de la película Vibes donde debutó como actriz el año 1988 ha sido interpretada en algunos shows en Europa después de "True Colors".

El álbum Bring ya to the Brink

Cyndi Lauper realizó a fines de mayo de 2008 el décimo álbum de su carrera, y el primero con material nuevo desde al año 2001. El disco, que originalmente se llamaría Savoir-faire, se editó bajo el título Bring ya to the Brink, algo así como "Te llevo al extremo", que se escucha en el coro de la canción "Lyfe". En la preparación del álbum, Cyndi visitó Inglaterra y Suecia durante el verano europeo de 2007 a escribir las letras y componer las canciones del álbum. Varias de ellas las compuso con DJ's como Basement Jaxx, Digital Dog, Dragonette, Richard Morel, Kleerup entre otros. Se trata de un álbum de música bailable en el que se mezclan el Dance-pop y la música electrónica, con letras festivas pero con contenido social e incluso político, a pesar que la mayoría de ellas considera temáticas de la vida cotidiana.

Los tracks 13 y 14 sólo aparecen en la edición japonesa del álbum.

El primer single lanzado exclusivamente en Japón fue "Set Your Heart" en formato promocional durante el mes de marzo. La canción contiene una interpolación de la canción "Where Are All My Friends" escrita por Gene McFadden, John Whitehead and Victor Carstarphen y que fuera un éxito de Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes en el año 1975. Es una canción de música disco renovada cuya nueva letra fue incorporada por Cyndi.
El single fue bien recepcionado por las radios japonesas alcanzando el #4 lugar en el Tokio Hot 100 y el #11 lugar en el Billboard Japan Hot 100 Singles. La canción se utilizó en la campaña de publicidad para el año 2008 del automóvil modelo X Zio de Toyota, protagonizada por el actor y cantante Takeshi Kaneshiro. Cyndi se embarcó en una gira de Australia realizando una presentación en el Rey's Park Botanic Gardens en Perth, Western Australia, apoyada por Katie Noonan y Kate Miller-Heidke el 22 de febrero de 2008.
La primera versión de la canción fue interpretada constantemente durante la gira True Colors 2007 con batería y pandero, seguido de una versión remezclada de "Girls Just Want to Have Fun".
El segundo single se editó el 6 de mayo, a tres semanas del lanzamiento del álbum Bring ya to the Brink. Se trata de "Same Ol' Story" (La misma vieja historia). El sencillo se editó en formato Paid download (descarga pagada por Internet) en iTunes Store y Amazon.com y se transformó en la canción más bajada durante la primera semana de mayo en todo el mundo. El sencillo contiene varias remezclas de la canción que fueron puestos en el Paid download por afamados DJs como Ralphi Rosario, Razor N Guido y el propio Richard Morel. La canción con ribetes de música disco, se acerca al dance-pop europeo en cuanto a estilo. La letra de la canción ha sido polémica por el uso del término "fucking", el cual se repite constantemente en el coro. Por ello se creó una versión "limpia" disponible en iTunes la cual reemplaza la letra "Same ol' fucking story" por "Same ol', same ol' story". El sencillo alcanzó el #1 lugar del Billboard Hot Dance Club Play en Estados Unidos, siendo el tercer sencillo de la Lauper en alcanzar esta posición en este ranking, después de "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" en 1984 y "The Goonies 'R' Good Enough" en 1984.

El 22 de septiembre, también en formato Paid download, se lanza el tercer sencillo del álbum "Into the Nightlife" (En la vida nocturna), una canción de música electrónica. En una entrevista con Entertainment Weekly, Cyndi dijo que el título de la canción deriva del libro de Henry Miller llamado "Into The Night Life" que inspiró a Lawrence Ferlinghetti a pintar "La Mente de Coney Island", que influyó a describir las imágenes de la vida nocturna en la ciudad de Nueva York. El sencillo fue lanzado en las estaciones de radio del Reino Unido a principios de septiembre de 2008. La canción alcanzó nuevamente el #1 lugar del Billboard Hot Dance Club Play en Estados Unidos y el #2 lugar en el UK Dance Chart. Además ingresó a los rankings de Australia y Francia a los primeros lugares. El video musical de la canción (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPC2l2li6JY) fue filmado en el Splash Bar en la ciudad de Nueva York el 20 de mayo de 2008. Muchos fanáticos fueron invitados a entrar de extras en el vídeo. El cantante y compositor judío de música R&B Ari Gold y el músico y estrella de filmes porno Colton Ford (Glenn Soukesian) aparecen en el video bailando detrás de Cyndi en el club nocturno, mientras que el cantante y guitarrista canadiense de la banda de rock The Cliks, Lucas Silveira aparece besando a una mujer no identificada en el club.

Venta de Entradas

Desde el 21 de octubre se encuentran disponibles a través del Sitio de Ticketmaster (VER LINKS) la venta de tickets para el concierto de CYNDI LAUPER del próximo 25 de noviembre a las 21 hrs. en el Teatro Caupolicán. También se pueden adquirir a través de Falabella y Cine Hoyts habilitados con el sistema de venta de tickets.
Las entradas tienen un costo de $18.000 (tribuna general), $30.000 (tribuna alta numerada), $40.000 (platea baja numerada), y $60.000 (palco). Si se adquieren a través de Ticketmaster, cine Hoyts, tiendas Falabella o el 690 2000, tienen un importe adicional (de un 10%) por el servicio. Si se adquieren en las boleterías del Teatro Caupolicán mantienen los precios arriba indicados.
